Worth knowing
- Coating is a chemical layer that keeps the paint easy to clean and resistant to chemical etching.
- PPF is a physical film that absorbs stone chips. Coating does not stop them: coating is a few microns thick; a stone chip needs film measured in mils.
- They solve different problems and are often specified together: film on the impact zones, coating over everything.
- Decontamination and correction come first, always. A coating locks in whatever is under it.
